IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU chronicles the unpacking of our traumas and the understanding of how they contribute to our mental, emotional, and moral shortcomings, whether tangible or intangible. To reach such a level of self awareness requires the dismissal of the ego (which can be problematic at times) and the unlearning of toxic behaviors learned through trauma.

From start to finish, INAAY not only displays J-S.A.N.D.’s growth as an individual, but his growth as an artist as well. Deviating from his signature loop-based production style (employed on his previous efforts), J-S.A.N.D. combines hard-hitting, bass-heavy production with his signature one-two punch of witty lyricism and introspection, creating a cocktail of pure self-reflection. His choice to sprinkle melodic accents throughout the album on tracks like “MIRROR,” and “ENOUGH,” and his creation of the original sample used on the Redveil-assisted "USED TO BE" showcases the extent of his versatility. While delivering his heartfelt messages, he makes sure to pay homage by recycling pieces of the past on tracks like “USEYOURHEART,” and “THE DEFINITION.”
